Why settle for dumb as a post?
Ever leave a school board meeting scratching your head as you wonder how on earth those people got elected? One could argue it’s the end result of increasing voter apathy. A despairing electorate succumbs to apathy after years of yearning for bold political leadership. Unbeknownst to many of these unfortunate voters, that apathy has allowed the putrid sewer of political corruption to seep down to the lowest rung of the public servant ladder: school boards. How? Uninformed voters randomly choose candidates from a list of people they don’t know. No other elected office save perhaps the water board of equalization leads voters to select a candidate through a series of tossed coins or personal predilections for particular names. This blasé decision-making has left parents, students and education professionals crying out for visionaries willing to put the needs of the community they serve ahead of their own interests and future political aspirations.
Oh hapless voter, look at the damage ye have wrought! Electing school board candidates through eenie-meenie-miny-moe allowed a coterie of Christian fundamentalists with a penchant for displaying aborted fetus pictures at high school campuses to take over the management of East San Diego’s Grossmont Union High School District. Lackadaisical chad-punching next to the name of incumbents allowed the unaware trustees of San Jose’s East Side Union High School District to hire a superintendent that figured the best way to balance a district budget was to preside over the largest unnecessary public education layoff in California’s history.
Despair not apathetic, hapless, lackadaisical voter! Two candidates cut from the same cord are here to answer your clarion call. These candidates will support you when you take a stand. Their earthy tones will beatify the drab sterility of the typical school board meeting room. They promise to listen to all your concerns. And because they’re inanimate, they’ll listen well.
Now you have a choice. You can vote for the post!
Think of it this way. The very much alive Grossmont incumbents stalled on contract negotiations for nearly two years before settling with the local union, narrowly averting a prolonged strike. Craig Mann, the East Side trustee running unopposed in the Santa Clara County board of education race, used his district-issued credit card for thousands of dollars of personal purchases; made a habit of sending nasty, inappropriate emails to teachers and staff; hired an autocratic superintendent that de
cimated employee morale; and voted to authorize 965 pink slips only to hire everyone back three weeks later. Can two sturdy pieces of lumber do much worse?
Why settle for dumb as post when you can have the post? Fence Post for Board. Wooden Post for Board. They’re not just bad puns, they’re write-in candidates you can trust.
