SKELETONS

Some of the ESUHSD board members have achieved dubious fame through past misdeeds and incompetence.

Juanita Ramirez - go to Mercury-News search articles older than 7 days and search for Ramirez + Herrera (articles 47-50). The Merc does not allow direct linkage to individual pages. Briefly, the several articles accuse Ramirez (and others) of trying to run down Esau Herrera in a parking lot with her car. One article is Herrera's version, including filing of a restraining order against Ramirez, who allegedly threatened him with references to use of gang members, etc. The DA found that though there was "bad blood," it wasn't a good case, perhaps a he-said/she-said situation (?).

Craig Mann - Mercury-News search search for Craig Mann, starting with article 1 "Big Spenders in Techland," then continue reading.

George Shirakawa, Jr. also has been caught with his hands in the cookie jar:

Misc:

  1. Here's a good one for all you golfers out there. Corde Valle, a posh country club in the San Martin area, in order to operate had to abide by a nagging little "public use" law, when they really only wanted to cater to the Valley's golf-lovin' CEOs. In stepped golf-lover Ron Gonzales, who appears to have offered some assistance to help the club find a loophole. What kind of assistance, you ask? Well, with the help of a lobbying firm, da mayor organized a group of consultants whose tireless efforts led to the club's becoming "Pebble Beach South Bay". The reward for this job well done? Comped green fees (250k a year!). Read the consultant list and guess whose name appears in all its gorilla—I mean, glory: George Shirakawa, Jr. Fore!: Metro Article
  2. Came across this tidbit from the Merc. It isn't much, but if you scroll down to the last paragraph, Roach tries to blame Coto for "mismanagement of the East Side." Hmmm. Isn't she a board member? Isn't a board member responsible for supervising the superintendent? The Merc politely strikes back, noting she herself racked up 20k in travelling expenses. Her excuse? The board approved the trips! Take a gander for yourself: San Jose Mercury
